"After 2 weeks fly drive through beautiful scenery in Canada, Montana & Wyoming, we didn't imagine anything could impress us more than we had already seen. Flat Creek Ranch, run by Joe & Marcia (plus a wonderful crew) exceeded all expectations." "After a long hiatus and extensive improvements in 2001, this historic ranch in a gorgeous setting is once again open for guests, with five renovated cabins and three gourmet meals daily."-Moon Handbooks - Wyoming "A visit to the historic Flat Creek Ranch is a remarkable journey into what the pristine mountain West used to be. . . .a magnificent lakeside hideaway."- Gene Kilgore's Ranch Vacations: The Leading Guide to Guest and Resort, Fly-Fishing, and Cross-Country Skiing Ranches in the United States and Canada For decades Jackson Hole's Flat Creek Ranch has carried a mystique inspired by its raucous history, its remoteness and its epic wild beauty. Getting here is your first adventure -- a 15-mile route across the National Elk Refuge and into the mountains over a rigorous jeep track. At the end of the road you reach a true haven, which in the 1920s became a hideaway for the flamboyant countess and newspaper publisher Cissy Patterson. It is still in her family--her descendents are now the ranch hosts. Come to hike, to ride, to fish, to experience the backcountry. Come to meet an array of wildlife from bald eagles to moose and deer, scores of ducks, owls and visiting osprey. Scan the cliffs above the ranch for mountain sheep. Fish for trout in our acclaimed stream and private lake. At the end of your wilderness day, come in for a soft landing. Unkink in the sauna. Restoke your fires on our ranch gourmet cooking-- a healthy and generous cuisine spiced with just enough decadence. Beer and wine are complimentary at cocktail hour and dinner. Finally settle down in one of our historic, completely renovated log cabins. Each is a suite consisting of a bedroom, a living room with wood stove, a bathroom and a sitting porch. Electric power comes from our state-of-the-art solar system - a symbol of our determination to preserve our environment and promote low impact eco-tourism. Flat Creek Ranch has been under a conservation easement since 1986. No development here will ever scar the natural beauty of surrounding lands, and the ranch will remain an intimate space for small numbers of guests. In addition to our own land, we have permits from the U.S. Forest Service allowing us to guide our guests through roughly 100 square miles of permanently protected mountain and forest terrain surrounding the ranch.
