Spend a Wilderness Summer

THESE JOBS HAVE TO BE FILLED FOR EACH SUMMER. SOME ARE FILLED WITH RETURNING EMPLOYEES, OTHERS WITH NEW HIRES. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE CLICK HERE ON Apply for a Job TO FIND OUT WHAT IS OPEN.

RANCH HELPERS
Our summer staff includes at least four highly motivated, dependable people who love the outdoors and want the experience of working at an historic wilderness ranch. Ideally, the candidates will come in pairs - friends who want to share a room in our bunkhouse and enjoy hiking together on their time off. Duties will include cleaning cabins, serving meals, helping with dishes, feeding the horses, relating to guests. Knowledge about mountain flora and fauna and ability to lead nature hikes is a big plus; so is the ability to entertain guests by playing the piano or the guitar. Two of the Ranch Helpers work three days of the week at the ranch and two days filling in as caretakers/guides at the Wilderness Camp, covering for the days off of the fulltime guides. For these two Ranch Helpers, we give preference to applicants over 21 so they will be able to drive guests from our camp to town after hiking. Applicants for the Ranch Helper positions must commit to work at least from late May through late August. We give preference to applicants who can also work in September.

OPERATIONS CHIEF
At the ranch, we employ a jack-of-all-trades who can maintain our solar, water and fire fighting equipment and fix things when they break. This will require an aptitude for carpentry, plumbing, car repair and fixing propane appliances, as well as a love of the outdoors. Experience in using a chain saw is a must. Experience as a fishing or hiking guide is a plus. Preference will go to candidates who can drive guests to and from town, which means candidates should be over 21. We would strongly consider hiring the spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend of the Operations Chief for another position on the ranch. Applicants must commit to work from May 1 through September 30.

CHEFS AT THE RANCH
Our staff includes two chefs. We look for team players, chefs who want to plan their own menus and are ready to escape assembly-line cooking. Our guests number 14 at the most. We promise fine food three times a day a 'ranch gourmet' cuisine that is creative, healthy and delicious. Our chefs are experienced in purchasing, able to plan and stick to a budget, and willing to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation. The chefs also cook meals for our staff. We welcome applications from a couple. Depending on qualifications, the spouse would work as a ranch helper, driver, wrangler and/or fishing guide. Applicants must commit to work from June 1 till mid-September.

HIKING GUIDES/COOKS FOR WILDERNESS CAMP
We employ two reliable, personable, athletic and experienced guides who want to spend a summer helping us operate our "Hiking Safari" business, which is located in the Gros Ventre mountains on an old logging road eight miles from our ranch. The guides are ideally spouses,  partners or friends who have had experience meeting- and-greeting and working with guests in the outdoors. Their assignment is to take turns leading long hikes and handling the logistics of the camp (shopping, cooking, keeping the camp clean, washing dishes, doing laundry, taking trash runs). Experience using a chainsaw is required, and an aptitude for fixing things is a big plus. The camp is accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle and consists of about eight tents on tent platforms, including a shower tent, a toilet tent and a cook tent. The drive to town takes about 45 minutes. During the time when there are no hiking clients, the guides serve as caretakers at the camp. Applicants must commit to work from early June through the end of August.

NOTES:

  • For days off, you will want your own vehicle. We'll transport you to and from the ranch for work.
  • At the ranch, the regular work schedule is five days and four nights, with three nights and two days off. Don't expect evenings on the town in Jackson except on your nights off.
  • We supply room and board during work days, and you are welcome to stay at the ranch (or the Wilderness Camp) during your days off.
  • We are an equal opportunity employer.

We are not set up to handle phone inquiries. If you would like to ask about employment, please click here on Apply for a Job.
